Mithai started as a single sweet shop in the year 1955 by four brothers namely Late Debendra Kumar Ghosh, Late Amarendra Kumar Ghosh, Late Dhirendra Kumar Ghosh & Sachindra Kumar Ghosh. The four brothers started the sweetmeat business in their home town Katwa in Bardhaman district and later on moved on to Kolkata in the year 1955.
