In the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system, the body is used as a mantra. The postures i.e. asanas represent the beads and the 3 fundamental techniques i.e. Ujjayi Pranayama, Drishti and Bandhas form the string that holds the beads together to create a garland of yoga postures. The system is designed to work as a movement meditation (dhyana) where the transition from each posture to the next is as important as the posture itself. In this way the practice becomes deeply meditative. The fundamental techniques taught at our yoga school ensure that the practice must happen almost effortlessly else they appear very hard.
